Medicare Diabetic Shoes

Did you know that medicare will pay for one pair of therapeutic shoes a year for their diabetic patients? Medicare wants to encourage diabetics to wear therapeutic shoes specially designed to help reduce their risk or ulceration, calluses, circulatory problems, and even amputation by paying for a new pair for these patients every year. To be eligible the patient must be on medicare, diabetic, and have one of the following other conditions:
-Previous amputation of the other foot, or part of either foot
-History of previous foot ulceration of either foot
-History of pre-ulcerative calluses of either foot
-Peripheral neuropathy with evidence of callus formation of either foot
-Foot deformity of either foot
-Poor circulation in either foot

If your doctor decides that they are medically necessary, then you can enroll in this program and have your custom shoes designed specifically for you. These shoes meet medicare standards for material and sizing, as well as for structures and features of the shoe.

At the Advanced Footcare Clinic, we offer a wide variety of diabetic shoes for both men and women. We have a variety of styles as well as shoe types (including boots). We also set aside a time to measure you for your shoes, as well as custom fitting them for your needs. We take great pride in knowing that we are providing shoes for our diabetic patients which will help reduce their risk of foot-related diabetic problems and will improve their over-all quality of life and footcare.

This is good to know, since I am a Type 2 diabetic, newly on Medicare, and have had two big toe amputations.
