Dr. Rosenfeld gave these 7 steps for Diabetics to follow on his Sunday morning House Call show on Fox news. Diet, Medication and Exercise are the key components for Diabetics and seeing the following specialists regularly:
1. Specialist- Every Diabetic needs a specialist to manage their Diabetes regularly.
2. Diabetic Nurse Specialist-Important if you need help and you can't get in to see your Diabetic Doctor right away a nurse specialist may help you quickly and get answers to your questions.
3. Dietician-Every Diabetic needs to watch their diet and consult with a dietician to understand what foods they should have and not. You will be surprised at how your diet doesn't have to be as limiting as you think!
4. Eye Doctor-Important to contact an eye specialist because diabetics are vulnerable to vision loss.
5. Podiatrist-Diabetics have reduced circulation in the legs and a sore may develop on your feet and go unnoticed. Amputations because of these sores and infection are common unfortunately. Visits to your Podiatrist on a regular basis are important!
6. Dentist-Oral infections in Diabetics are common and should be treated early. See your Dentist regularly.
7. Physiotherapist -Exercise is important to lower your weight and blood sugar. It is important to contact a physiotherapist to give you exercises you ENJOY, because there is nothing worse than doing exercise you hate doing.
Also, Omega-3 Fatty Acid supplements are very protective. If you are deficient in a certain vitamin or mineral then supplementation is good, but no one vitamin supplement has proven to help diabetes.
